UNYQ Appoints Former IKEA Head of Design Marcus Engman

We are proud to announce the appointment of Marcus Engman as Vice President of Design, effective immediately. Marcus is the former Head of Design for IKEA, the values-driven Swedish furniture giant, a position he held for over six years before forming his own consultancy, Skewed Productions. He also serves as Global Executive Creative Director for Doberman, a pioneering design company.

In his new role, Marcus will assume responsibility for UNYQ’s product design, including the prosthetic and orthotics ranges. Marcus will also take the lead in the development of new partnerships and UNYQ’s expansion into new territories. Building on the knowledge gained from the company’s ground-breaking medical wearables, the first of these expansions will focus on the creation of personalised products for the growing gaming community.

Eythor Bender, Co-Founder and CEO of UNYQ, said: “I am delighted to welcome Marcus to the UNYQ team. Marcus brings a wealth of high-quality experience which will be invaluable as we continue to grow, expand our product range and enter new markets. UNYQ is disrupting the MedTech sector and supporting the physically challenged community with customised and affordable medical wearables. Marcus’ vision will have a hugely positive impact and, in many ways, already has.”

Marcus Engman, Vice President of Design at UNYQ, added: “UNYQ is a truly inspiring company that is leading the way in inclusive design. The many people in the world that are navigating their daily lives while fighting the difficulties and stigma of physical challenges deserve to have a product that is both functional and stylish. I am proud to be part of this movement and look forward to supporting the community.”

Born and raised in Almhult, Sweden, Marcus began his career working at an IKEA store during his school holidays. He became a home furnishing apprentice to IKEA interior designer Mary Ekmark during the 1980s and later held roles like communications and interior design manager at IKEA stores. He became Global Range Strategist for IKEA Sweden in 1996 and Retail Marketing Manager in 1998, before founding his own retail agency, Kollo, in 2000. He returned to IKEA as Head of Design in 2012, a role he held until September 2018.
